The Journal of New Jersey Poets is an annual poetry magazine for, by, and about the poets of the Garden State. New Jerseyans from around the world have an open invitation to submit poetry to the Journal for publication. The deadline is November 1; publication date is April. The editors consider a “New Jersey Poet” to be any poet who lives here, or who has “done time” here as a resident, student, or employee.

The County College of Morris Foundation and the English and Philosophy Department sponsor the Journal. The New Jersey Poets Prize, founded in 2010, consists of a $1000.00 cash prize, a commemorative medallion, and a prize reading celebrating the winning poet for a poem entered in the annual competition (deadline November 1).

Issue #51 in 2014 marked the Journal of New Jersey Poet’s 40th anniversary celebration. Four New Jersey Poets Prize winners (Charles Johnson, Charlotte Mandel, Ed Romond, and Tina Kelley) read their winning poems, and they were followed by many poets featured in the anniversary issue.

Submissions for the next issue and entries for the New Jersey Poets Prize are welcome. Subscriptions are strongly encouraged to keep us alive and thriving. See Guidelines for details.
